Take your journey into gynecology to the next level.

Welcome to the ESEG® advanced principles course in ENT – CO₂ laser surgery!

Over two intensive days, this course offers a comprehensive overview of modern CO₂ laser applications in otorhinolaryngology, combining scientific background, international clinical experience, and structured hands-on training. This program is intended for ENT surgeons with prior experience in laser surgery or otorhinolaryngology. Participants benefit by refining precision in microlaryngeal, oncologic, and otologic procedures, enhancing surgical safety, and integrating efficient workflows for immediate clinical impact.

The first day focuses on the fundamentals and advanced clinical applications of laser surgery in ENT. Participants will begin with an introduction to medical laser physics and the specific advantages of CO₂ laser technology in ENT surgery, followed by in-depth sessions on precision, safety, and modern surgical concepts. Technical innovations that improve laser performance and usability will be discussed, along with various surgical approaches in microlaryngeal procedures. The program also highlights cross-disciplinary applications of CO₂ lasers and their role in the management of advanced oral tumors. Clinical case reports, including a laser chordectomy and laser stapedotomy presented by surgeons from University Hospital Mainz, as well as transoral laser microsurgery for glottic cancer from Hospital Varese, provide practical insights into real-world surgical decision-making and outcomes.

The second day is dedicated to practical training. After an anatomical introduction using a goat model and a preparatory session with a larynx simulator, participants will receive a structured demonstration of the surgical laser system in the wet lab. Hands-on workshops in small groups will allow surgeons to practice laryngeal laser applications and laser stapedotomy techniques under expert supervision. The course concludes with a summary discussion, certificate handover, and organized bus transfer to Dubai.

This course provides a focused, clinically relevant learning experience, ensuring that participants return to their institutions with enhanced technical confidence, a deeper understanding of CO₂ laser-tissue interaction, and refined surgical skills. The scientific chairman of the course is Prof. Dr. Christoph Matthias. He completed internships in the USA and England and subsequently held senior positions in the ENT departments of university hospitals in Berlin, Munich, and Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 2006, he was appointed as a Professor at LMU Munich. Before becoming the Head of the ENT Department at the University Medical Center Göttingen in 2007, he worked under the renowned ENT surgeon Prof. Wolfgang Steiner. Currently, he leads the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University Medical Center Mainz.
